Magic's young guns coming of age
Basketball Betting Lines
11/24/2006 -
(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Yes, it's too early to jump to conclusions with the
2006-07 NBA season not even a month old, but the Orlando Magic have definitely
served notice that they will be a factor in the Southeast Division.
After Wednesday's 96-91 victory over the Indiana Pacers -- the Magic's fifth
win in six games -- Orlando moved into a tie with Cleveland for the best
record in the Eastern Conference at 8-4. What's even more impressive about
that splendid start is that the players most responsible for the turnaround,
forward Dwight Howard and guard Jameer Nelson, are just starting to show off
their considerable potential.
With each passing game, Howard continues to prove Orlando correct for taking
him with the No. 1 overall pick as an 18-year-old in the 2004 draft. The
ultra-talented youngster amassed 24 points and 21 rebounds in last Saturday's
victory over Charlotte, then backed that monster performance up with a 24-
point, 23-rebound effort at Memphis two days later.
Howard had a chance to become the first NBA player since Kevin Willis in 1991
to record three straight games with at least 20 points and 20 rebounds, but
could "only" manage 16 points and 11 boards in the Indiana win. The yet-to-
turn 21-year-old leads the league with an average of 13.8 rebounds per game
and is shooting better than 60 percent from the field.
Nelson picked up the slack against the Pacers, as the third-year pro racked up
22 points on 7-of-12 shooting. He's averaging a career-best 15.1 points
through the team's first 12 outings.
Orlando will try to maintain its grasp on the Southeast lead with consecutive
games against divisional opponents this weekend. The Magic visit defending
world champion Miami on Friday before hosting Atlanta on Saturday.

Super Bowl 2009, the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Let’s take a look at the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds and the betting line and figure out where they’ve been and where they are going to go.
MySportsbook.com put up the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds late on Sunday night with the Pittsburgh Steelers favored by 6.5 points and a total betting line at 47.5 points.
Since then, however, the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds have seen a good deal of movement and you’ll want to be on top of where they are likely to move to make sure you get the best line value for the big game.
Since opening, the Super Bowl 2009 betting lines went to Steelers -7 in the span of roughly 3 hours but were quickly bought back down just minutes later to 6.5 again.
After that is took about 5-6 more hours before the betting line went back to -7 where it has sat for a while now and is likely to remain. The opening betting total of 47.5 was bet down right after the line became available and went to 47 within minutes.
Roughly a day later it has been bet even further down to the 46.5 tally it currently is set at.
Roughly 60% of gamblers seem to be on the Cardinals here so the point spread will be bet down and a 7.5 would not last very long at all with many taking the early 6.5 in hopes of finding a potential middle in the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds.
If you like Arizona and see a 7.5, I’d take it as soon as possible because it’s unlikely to last. For Pittsburgh backers, the -7 might be the best you’ll be able to find but a 6.5 is definitely possible close to game time.
Regarding the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds for the total, most tracked gamblers are already on the over and with those who took the under 47.5 already securing a middle on the over 46.5, the only way I see it moving is back up to 47 so if you like the over, I’d recommend betting now.

Oddsmakers have released the odds for the 2009 AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award and Seattle Seahawks linebacker Aaron Curry has been made the opening favorite.
Bet on NFL Football
Seattle took Curry with the fourth overall pick in April's NFL draft and plan on inserting him into its starting lineup right away. The Hawks traded linebacker Julian Peterson in the offseason, so Curry is expected to have a significant role in Seattle's defense next year and that's one of the primary reasons he is the favorite to win the NFL ROY Award.
Oddsmakers from online sportsbook MySportsbook.com have made Curry a 5/1 favorite to win this year's NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. Given that he was the best defensive prospect in this year's draft and how he'll have plenty of opportunities to make plays in '09, Curry offers a ton of value at 5/1.
Another thing working for Curry is the position he plays. A linebacker has won the defensive ROY award six straight times and eight of the last nine years. Jerod Mayo, Patrick Willis, DeMeco Ryans, Shawne Merriman, Jonathan Vilma, Terrell Suggs, Kendrell Bell and Brian Urlacher were the most recent linebackers to take home the award.
Following Curry at 5/1 are Tyson Jackson (Chiefs) at 7/1, James Laurinaitas (Rams) at 8/1, Brian Orakpo (Redskins) at 10/1, Rey Maualuga (Bengals) at 10/1 and Jerry Peria (Falcons) at 10/1.
All the players mentioned above are expected to start for their respective teams, but Jackson and Peria are going to have a tough time being recognized on a national level given they're both defensive linemen. D-linemen rarely put up the numbers that it takes to win an individual award like the ROY.
A couple of players with some value are Clay Matthews (Packers) at 12/1 and Larry English (Chargers) at 15/1. Matthews is expected to start at outside linebacker in Green Bay's new 3-4 defense and could rack up a ton of tackles. English, who was an impressive player at Northern Illinois, is expected to be a situational pass rusher for the Chargers and could rack up a ton of sacks.
